Exploring The Darwin Hotel: A Sneak Peek into Atlanta's Charming Retreat

Mural of John Lewis

Unlike any other hotel in Atlanta, and a first in its neighborhood, The Darwin is a trailblazing boutique hotel offering a unique vibe. It offers an old world charm with a chic modern twist. The Darwin is the first hotel of its kind in Atlanta’s hip Old Fourth Ward neighborhood. Its modest brick exterior, welcomes you like it did its original inhabitants who were here for the 1996 Olympic games, except now the building has a beautiful paper crane mural painted on the outside. Opened in December 2022, this hotel has already started to make its mark on the city as the chosen site for the 2023 Atlanta Film Festival wrap party, several networking events, monthly culinary pop-ups and for having 8 of the coolest themed suites in the city.

The Darwin wants every guest to feel at home. The concept of love, hope, and transformation pervade the property. Each guest receives an origami crane upon check in which can be redeemed for a drink at the bar. The use of cranes was inspired by the Japanese tradition in which origami cranes symbolize hope and healing. The thoughtfulness doesn’t stop there! As soon as you enter the building you are greeted by a gorgeous mural of John Lewis, painted by local artist Think Greatly – a female muralist who is extremely well regarded. Her beautiful depiction of this civil rights hero is a nod to the concept of transformation embodied by this hotel, this neighborhood, and this city. The hotel is committed to supporting the local community highlighting local artists and makers in their hotel lobby’s shop.

When you arrive at The Darwin, the idea is that you can take the time you need and be whoever you want, simply leaving you 9-5 behind so you can truly rest and relax.
